Ingredients

  • 8 string cheeses, frozen
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • canola oil, to taste
  • marinara sauce, optional, to taste, for serving

Directions

Step 1 –Cut each the frozen string cheeses in half.

Step 2 –Place the flour in a bowl.

Step 3 –Lightly coat each of the string cheese pieces with the flour.

Step 4 –In another bowl, mix together the egg and the milk.

Step 5 –Mix together the panko, the Italian seasoning, the pepper, and the garlic salt in a shallow pan.

Step 6 –Pour the canola oil into a deep skillet so that it comes 1-inch up the sides.

Step 7 –Begin heating the oil over medium heat.

Step 8 –Take the flour-dipped string cheese pieces and, one at a time, dip them into the egg-milk mixture and coat them in the seasoned panko.

Step 9 –After the oil is heated, gently place one of the coated string cheese pieces into the oil. If the piece floats within 5-10 seconds the oil is hot enough.

Step 10 –Cook each side until fully browned, about 30-60 seconds on each side.

Step 11 –Let the mozzarella sticks drain and cool for at least 1 minute on a paper-towel-lined plate.

Step 12 –Serve with the marinara sauce.
