Ground Beef Pot Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups carrots, finely chopped
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes, without added milk and butter
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon rubbed sage
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 sheet refrigerated piecrust
  • 1 large egg, optional, beaten

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Step 2 –In a large nonstick skillet over medium heat, cook the beef, the onions, and the carrots, while breaking the meat into crumbles, until the meat is no longer pink, about 5-10 minutes. Drain the excess grease if needed.

Step 3 –Stir the mashed potatoes, the broth, the sage, the salt, the thyme, the marjoram, and the pepper into the beef mixture.

Step 4 –Spoon the beef mixture onto an ungreased 9-inch pie plate.

Step 5 –Place the piecrust over the filling and crimp the edge to seal.

Step 6 –Cut slits on top of the piecrust for venting and brush with the egg wash.

Step 7 –Bake the pot pie until the crust is golden-brown, about 30-35 minutes.

Step 8 –Let the pot pie stand for 10 minutes.

Step 9 –Serve.
