Ingredients

  • 4 tilapia filets
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more, to taste, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, plus more, to taste, divided
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 2 tablespoons honey, plus more, to taste, divided
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest, plus more, to taste, divided
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1/3 cup whole-wheat pastry flour or all-purpose flour

Directions

Step 1 –In a 9×13-inch baking dish, season both sides of the tilapia filets with 1/2 teaspoon of the salt and 1/2 teaspoon of the pepper.

Step 2 –In a medium bowl, whisk 2 tablespoons of the olive oil, the honey, the lime juice, 1 teaspoon of the lime zest, and the garlic together.

Step 3 –Pour the honey mixture over the tilapia filets, cover the dish, and marinate in the refrigerator for 1 hour.

Step 4 –In a shallow dish, add the flour and the extra salt, the extra black pepper, and the extra lime zest and mix to combine.

Step 5 –In a cast-iron skillet or nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, add the remaining olive oil.

Step 6 –Dredge both sides of the tilapia filets in the flour mixture until lightly coated.

Step 7 –Add the tilapia filets to the oil and cook until both sides are flaky and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.

Step 8 –Transfer the tilapia filets to a paper-towel-lined plate and let them drain.

Step 9 –Serve the filets topped with the extra honey and the extra lime zest.
