Ingredients
- 2 (20-ounce) cans unsweetened crushed pineapple
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
- 2 1/2 pounds deli ham, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- 10 slices Swiss cheese or cheddar cheese, optional
- 10 kaiser rolls, split
Directions
Step 1 -Mix together the pineapple and its juices, the onions, the light brown sugar, and the Dijon mustard.
Step 2 -Place half of the pineapple mixture into a 5-quart slow cooker.
Step 3 -Top the pineapple mixture in the slow cooker with 1/2 of the ham slices.
Step 4 -Repeat the layers.
Step 5 -Cover and cook on low until heated through, about 3-4 hours.
Step 6 -Using tongs, remove the ham from the slow cooker, leaving the pineapple mixture in the slow cooker. Keep the ham warm.
Step 7 -In a large saucepan, mix the cornstarch and the water together until smooth.
Step 8 -Stir the pineapple mixture into the slurry in the pan.
Step 9 -Bring the pineapple mixture to a boil.
Step 10 -Reduce the heat to low.
Step 11 -Simmer, uncovered, until the mixture is slightly thickened, stirring occasionally.
Step 12 -Serve the ham, the pineapple mixture, and the cheese on the kaiser rolls.
