Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups macaroni
  • 14 ounces maple breakfast sausages
  • 1/4 cup plus 1 teaspoon butter, divided
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups light cream
  • 3 cups Havarti cheese, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon dehydrated minced onion
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups frosted corn flake cereal

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.

Step 2 –Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Step 3 –Cook the macaroni according to the instructions on the package.

Step 4 –Remove the meat from the sausage casings.

Step 5 –Add the sausage meat and 1 teaspoon of the butter to a large pot.

Step 6 –Place the pot over medium-high heat and cook the sausage until browned, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 7 –Add the flour and the remaining butter to the sausage meat and stir well.

Step 8 –Cook, stirring occasionally until the flour is incorporated and golden, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 9 –Add the cream to the meat mixture, stirring well and cook until the cream starts to bubble and thicken, about 3 minutes.

Step 10 –Turn off the heat.

Step 11 –Drain the macaroni.

Step 12 –Add the macaroni, the Havarti, the salt, the pepper, and the minced onion to the sausage mixture, stirring until all of the noodles are coated in the sauce.

Step 13 –Pour the macaroni mixture into the prepared baking dish.

Step 14 –Crack the eggs into a medium mixing bowl and beat well with a fork.

Step 15 –Add the cereal to the eggs and mix until the cereal is coated in the egg.

Step 16 –Spread the cereal mixture over the sausage mixture in the baking dish evenly, covering the entire top.

Step 17 –Bake until the cereal starts to brown at the edges, about 9-11 minutes.

Step 18 –Serve hot.
