Ingredients
- water, to taste
- 6 large eggs
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
- 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon white sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- hot sauce, optional, to taste
- bread slices, optional, to taste
- lettuce, optional, to taste
Directions
Step 1 -In a saucepan, add enough of the water to just cover the eggs.
Step 2 -Place the saucepan on the stovetop over medium heat and bring the water to a low boil. Boil the eggs for 5 minutes.
Step 3 -Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it stand, covered, for 5 minutes.
Step 4 -Transfer the eggs to ice water and let them cool for 5 minutes.
Step 5 -Peel the eggs.
Step 6 -Grate the eggs into a medium mixing bowl.
Step 7 -Add the mayonnaise, the relish, the mustard, the sugar, the lemon juice, the salt, the pepper, and the hot sauce to the eggs and mix well.
Step 8 -Chill the egg salad for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Step 9 -Top the bread slices with the lettuce and the egg salad and serve.
