Granny Smith Bars

Here’s the shortcut to delivering enough delicious apple pie flavor to make everyone at your party happy. Granny Smith Bars feature a buttery, flaky crust and some deliciously spiced, jammy, sweet and tart apples, as well as a pleasingly creamy icing on top! Because why not? Ingredients

  • For the bars:
  • 1 (15-ounce) package pastry for a 9-inch double-crust pie
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour, plus more for flouring work surfaces
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
  • 3 Gala apples, peeled and sliced
  • For the topping:
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Step 2 –Lightly roll 1 pie crust onto a floured work surface.

Step 3 –Press the pie crust into a 9×13-inch baking dish, using any leftover pieces to fill the corners.

Step 4 –In a large bowl, whisk the white sugar, the flour, the cinnamon, and the nutmeg together.

Step 5 –Toss the apple slices in the flour mixture until evenly coated.

Step 6 –Spread the apple mixture evenly over the pie crust in the prepared baking dish.

Step 7 –Roll out the remaining pie crust and place it over the apple layer, folding the edges over to completely cover the apples.

Step 8 –Bake until the crust is golden, about 45-50 minutes.

Step 9 –Remove the apple bars from the oven and allow them to cool for 20 minutes.

Step 10 –Whisk the confectioners’ sugar, the milk, and the vanilla extract together until smooth.

Step 11 –Drizzle the topping over the bars.

Step 12 –Serve.
