Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon cooking oil
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 2 pounds pork butt or boneless ribs, chopped into chunks
- 1-2 cups water, starting with 1 cup and adding more as needed
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons fish sauce
- white rice, optional, cooked, for serving
- green onions, optional, for garnish
- sesame seeds, optional, for garnish
- red pepper, optional, for garnish
Directions
Step 1 –Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet over medium-high on the stove-top.
Step 2 –Cook the onions and pork until the meat is browned, about 5 minutes.
Step 3 –Add 1 cup of the water, the soy sauce, the sugar, and the fish sauce to the skillet.
Step 4 –Bring the mixture to a boil and then the lower heat.
Step 5 –Simmer until the sauce has thickened and caramelized, about 30 minutes-1 hour.
Step 6 –Stir and serve over rice, topped with green onions, sesame seeds, and red pepper.
