Turtle Brownies

Blissful. Delightful. Sublime. Just a few of our favorite words to describe our favorite dessert. Turtle Brownies can’t be summed up in just one word, so we have to share them all! These chewy, moist brownies are crowned with three delectable layers of caramel and pecan goodness, creamy peanut butter, and melted semi-sweet chocolate chips. Decadent. Luscious. Exquisite. Turtle Brownies will have you thinking of all of the adjectives… or seriously, who are we kidding?! All you’ll really be thinking is how these are the yummiest brownies you’ve ever had, from top to bottom. They’re seriously the best of the best. It’s as simple as that!

Ingredients

For the brownies:

  • 1 box brownie mix, plus the ingredients called for on the package
  • For the turtle topping:
  • 1 (11-ounce) bag caramels, unwrapped
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 1/2 cups pecans, chopped

For the peanut butter topping:

  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons milk

For the chocolate topping:

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • course sea salt, to taste

Directions

Step 1 –Prepare the brownies according to the package directions.

Step 2 –Allow the brownies to cool completely.

Step 3 –In a large, microwave-safe bowl, add the caramels and 2 tablespoons of the milk and heat in the microwave, stirring frequently, until the caramels are almost smooth, about 1 minute 30 seconds-2 minutes.

Step 4 –Immediately transfer the melted caramels from the microwave, add the pecans, and stir until combined.

Step 5 –While the caramel mixture is still warm, scoop it over the top of the cooled brownies.

Step 6 –Use greased wax paper to press down and spread the caramel mixture to cover the brownies.

Step 7 –In a medium bowl, add the butter, the peanut butter, the confectioners’ sugar, and the remaining milk and use an electric hand mixer to beat until well-combined. The mixture will be very thick.

Step 8 –Evenly pour the peanut butter mixture over the caramel mixture and use your hands to press and spread it out.

Step 9 –In a large microwave-safe bowl, add the chocolate chips and the vegetable oil and heat in the microwave, stirring frequently, until the chocolate is almost melted and smooth, about 1 minute.

Step 10 –Immediately pour the chocolate mixture over the peanut butter mixture and use an offset spatula to spread it out.

Step 11 –Evenly sprinkle the course sea salt on top of the brownies.

Step 12 –Cut the brownies into serving-size pieces and serve.
