Ingredients

  • 1 (21-ounce) can apple pie filling
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 10 slices day-old brioche bread, French bread, or cinnamon raisin bread
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted, plus more, to taste, softened, for serving

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Step 3 –Spread the pie filling in the dish.

Step 4 –In a pie plate, beat the eggs, the milk, and the vanilla.

Step 5 –Dip the bread slices into the egg mixture, soaking them for about 1 minute per slice and turning once.

Step 6 –Arrange two rows of the soaked bread slices on top of the pie filling, overlapping the slices slightly.

Step 7 –In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and the sugar together.

Step 8 –Brush the bread with 2 tablespoons of the melted butter.

Step 9 –Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the bread slices. If you’re making it ahead, cover and refrigerate it after this step.

Step 11 –Serve fruit-side up with the extra butter.
