The Perfect Picadillo

Easy, delicious, authentic… you won’t want to miss this! The Perfect Picadillo will quickly become your new favorite meal! Savory ground beef is seasoned with Latin America’s best kept spice secrets, along with vibrant, colorful bell peppers, tangy olives, and jammy raisins! Those flavors all come together to make something, well, perfect! On a bed of fluffy white rice or with some creamy black beans, The Perfect Picadillo will be a quick, delicious meal change-up for your busy family!

Ingredients

For the picadillo:

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • adobo all-purpose seasoning, to taste, such as Goya® Adobo All-Purpose Seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 yellow bell pepper, diced
  • 3 tablespoons garlic
  • 4 tablespoons sofrito cooking base, such as Goya Sofrito Cooking Base
  • 1 (1.41-ounce) packet sazón seasoning, such as Sazón Goya Culantro y Achiote
  • 2 teaspoons oregano
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 (14-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/3 cup pimento-stuffed olives
  • 1/3 cup raisins
  • 1 tablespoon cilantro, chopped
  • water, to taste

Optional, for serving:

  • white rice, to taste, cooked and warm
  • black beans, to taste, cooked and warm
  • fresh cilantro leaves, to taste

Directions

Step 1 –In a large bowl, add the ground beef and the adobo seasoning and mix gently but thoroughly to combine. Set it aside.

Step 2 –In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil.

Step 3 –Add the onions, the green bell peppers, the red bell peppers, the yellow bell peppers, and the garlic, and cook, while stirring constantly, until the onions are translucent, about 2-4 minutes.

Step 4 –Add the sofrito to the veggie mixture and cook, while stirring constantly, until fragrant and a little of the oil starts to separate from the veggie mixture, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 5 –Add the seasoned ground beef mixture to the veggie mixture and cook, while crumbling the meat, until the beef is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 6 –Add the sazón seasoning, the oregano, the cumin, and the tomato sauce to the ground beef mixture and cook, while stirring frequently, until thoroughly combined, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 7 –Add the olives, the raisins, 1 tablespoon of the cilantro, and the water to the ground beef mixture and cover the skillet.

Step 8 –Simmer, while stirring occasionally, until the meat is cooked and the oil starts to separate on the top of the meat, about 8-10 minutes.

Step 9 –Taste the ground beef mixture and season it with the adobo seasoning, as needed, stirring to combine. Make sure to simmer the new seasoning into the mixture until incorporated, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 10 –Serve with the rice and the black beans, garnished with the remaining cilantro leaves.
