If you want to feed your dog after a good walk then you must wait for at least 30-45 mins so that the dog becomes familiar with being still and the pulse rate of the dog becomes normal and he can eat without causing any health issues to his body. If you fail to follow this routine, this may lead to Gastric Dilatation Volvulus (GDV).

Twisting of the dog’s stomach is the main symptom of GDV. This happens when the dog eats immediately after or before walk, or exercise. This may also lead to bloating. Bloating is the problem caused due to indigestion which means your stomach expands due to excessive eating or gas is collected in your stomach.

Common symptoms of bloating are that your stomach expands abnormally, your breathing becomes harsh, your heart rate increases, and so on. GDV is mostly found in bigger breeds of dogs and can be life-threatening. When your dog is given treatment for GDV the chances of death is from 10 percent to 30 percent. There is a disturbance in the anatomical sphincter when we feed the dogs immediately before or after a walk.

Why Should You Wait 30 To 45 Minutes Before Feeding Your Dog A After Walk?

For a human to be healthy, he/she has to eat 3 to 4 times a day. To achieve this, we follow a routine every day where we eat our breakfast in the morning from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., lunch in the afternoon between 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., and dinner from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. But, it is not the same for dogs. Dogs may follow your routine or be the exact opposite of you.

So, as a responsible dog owner, one should know about the food habits of his/her dog. After adopting a dog you should take care of it like a baby. It cannot speak and so you should first learn how to take good care of them. Being a dog owner for the first, it might difficult for one to learn about your dog’s habits and routines. If you feed your dog two times a day you can do it from 6 a.m to 7 a.m and at 6 p.m. Because it takes 4 hours to 5 hours for the food to be digested. At this time the dog will search for food.
