Technology is increasing day by day. People are shifting to virtual dating through phone or computer appointments or making virtual appointments. Meeting in person has however faded these days. If you have been officially dating your partner for a few months or most of the past decade, you may be wondering how you know when I hit the “sweet spot”. However, this is the time to get involved. When people on your Facebook feed start flaunting a diamond ring after seeing someone for less than a year while the high school sweetheart you know goes without a ring for decades, it’s no surprise you are confused. Every couple is different depending on their age and circumstances, but a reasonable time to bond is one to three years. Several factors determine when and if it’s time to commit. Some of these factors can be how they communicate with each other, common interests and values, how you deal with your finances, sexual gratification, etc. It is also important to know that couples will not agree, but what matters is how the differences of opinion are treated and resolved.

While you may not be able to measure marital success in terms of time, the same overhead (and tons of it) must be there when two people plan to stay married for life. Time is on the couple’s side when it comes to the longevity of their marriage. However, experts suggest that in a happy marriage there is much more commitment than years together.

The results showed that couples who were together an average of 25 months before marriage were happier married at the end of the study. The study also looked at couples who married the fastest. These couples were an average of 18 months old and engaged half that time. Of those who got married the fastest, the study found that marriages survived up to seven years, but many divorced after that.

In a happy marriage, they share the most fundamental aspects of a relationship that are most important in determining whether a future marriage is permanent. The purpose of dating is to get familiar with your partner and know him/her as much as possible before marriage, with the ultimate goal of having a successful and lasting marriage. In Project PAIR, Professor Ted L. Huston followed 168 newlywed couples for 14 years and recorded the relationship satisfaction of each couple at all times.

Another recent study published by Emory University researchers after 3,000 couples found that those who were together for three or more years were 39 percent less likely to divorce than those who were together for less than a year. Couples who were together for two years were 20 percent less likely to break up.

All these studies are directed to one conclusion. It says that those couples who tend to wait for the longest to marry were the most satisfied in their longstanding marriage and the least likely to be divorced. For most, this may be the recommended time, but experts have certainly recognized that a successful marriage is more about preparation than just time.
